This charming little dog is simply a joy to hang out with, or
come home to. A very loyal family friend, always interested in
doing what ever you have chosen to do, as long as that includes
some close contact. They have good intelligence, and are easy to
train. They have also been known as the ''Havana Silky Dog''.
The Havanese is an old breed of the Bichon family. There are
references to the ancestors of the modern dogs that go back to
Plinius[23-79] B.C.in the Mediterranean Region, and have
originated on the Island of Malta. Dogs in both Spain and Italy
played a great part in bringing the Havanese to the new world.
To day's Havanese decended from dogs that found a permanent
home in Cuba, where they were popular amoung the wealthy.
After the Cuban revolution in 1959, many of the dogs ended up
in the United States.
The Havanese dog is a sturdy, short legged, small dog, with a
profuse coat, and his tail is carried curled over his back. There
height ranges from 8.5 to 11.5 inches. There weight should be
from 7 to 13 pounds.
